The red sun shall prevail.

This is the cryptic message displayed after running the RedSun exploit on a fully patched Windows 11 machine. The exploit takes a while (due to it being necessary to win a race condition, and after each retry it prints the line:

The sun is shinning...

After successfully running (and before popping a cmd.exe with NT-AUTHORITY\SYSTEM privileges), the exploit prints this line:

The red sun shall prevail.

The exploit is from the author of BlueHammer and UnDefend, the mysterious Nightmare-Eclipse aka Chaotic Eclipse. It is unpatched as of 4-20-2026.

What is this? A movie quote? A literary allusion? Or does the "red sun" which "will prevail" allude to a communist country, most notably China?

In their blog, Chaotic Eclipse mentions that they will eventually "start dropping RCEs". So far, it doesn't look like they are bluffing.
